The Distinctive Feature

In John 13:34-35, Jesus gives His disciples a command to love one another as He has loved them. This passage reminds us that love is not merely a feeling or a sentiment but the defining, distinguishing mark of every genuine Christ follower. The kind of love Jesus calls us to is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. It is not something we can manufacture on our own. It flows from a personal, ongoing encounter with Jesus Himself and is made possible through the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. When the body of Christ loves one another this way, a watching world takes notice and is drawn to the truth of the Gospel.
