A majority of Americans living today claim to be Christians, and of those who claim to be a Christian 81% say they have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ. Yet less than 18% claim to be committed to investing in their own spiritual development; the same proportion claims to be completely dependent upon God.1 Less than 10% have talked about their faith with a non-Christian, fasted for religious purposes, or had an extended time of spiritual reflection during the past week. Only 40% of these Christians participate in a combination of three "normal" religious activities in the past week. (attending church, praying, reading the bible, etc.) 2

Barna went on to distinguish normal Christians from "born again" Christians and yet those stats are little depressing as well. Many born again Christians believe Satan is just a symbol of evil, they believe that Mormons are Christians, that Muslims and Christians worship the same God and many don't hold to a biblical world view let alone view God as being omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and creator of this universe. More shocking there are some "born again" individuals that believe Jesus Sinned while on earth.

As a result Barna has found that many Christians don't live life much differently then non-Christians.
